The Searcher - January 2026
What’s new in this issue?
Exclusively on our cover this month is a lovely Post Medieval seal matrix, which amazingly has been disclaimed by the local museum. Finder Roger Paul recounts the moments of its discovery.
Other highlights are two more Roman coin hoards! One was found (yet again) on a Ninth Region group dig (See last month’s issue), and the other was unearthed in Kent - both hoards were excavated by archaeologists. Kimberley Dickinson shares the discovery of a gold memorial ring for Samuel Pitt and her subsequent research, and Barney Bryant describes ‘The moment we all dream of’ when he finds two special finds in a couple of hours.
Our technical feature, by Detecting in Depth, is ‘Detecting myths that refuse to die’ and in David Villanueva’s Metal Detecting Research Secrets, looks at ‘Lost manors, parks, and forgotten estates’.
